Every Pokemon player has heard of Shiny Pokemon. If you have one, then other Pokemon players will envy and respect you, because Shinies are the rarest forms of Pokemon and have an eye-watering spawn rate of 1 in 4,098. That's one in every 4,000 Pokemon you catch! Shinies aren't any more powerful than normal Pokémon, but they can nab you respect and possibly be a powerful bargaining factor in trades.

Know about SOS Battles. SOS Battles are a type of battle in Pokemon Sun and Moon and Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. SOS Battles mean 'save our ship' battles, where an injured wild Pokemon that is low on Health will call for ally Pokemon. The ally Pokemon have a high chance of being Shiny. To start, you will want to stock up on Adrenaline Orbs. Adrenaline Orbs are items that you can buy from every Pokemart and that make Pokemon more likely to call for allies.

  2. 2

Teach your Pokémon an HP reducing move that will not kill the wild Pokémon. Once you have an Adrenaline Orb, you will want to teach one of your Pokemon the move False Swipe, which lowers the enemy's health to the very minimum, so that it will be most likely to call for help. False Swipe can be found on Route 8.

  3. 3

Bring your Adrenaline Orb and your False Swipe Pokemon to a Pokemon battle, and then use False Swipe to lower the enemy's health to 1 HP.

  4. 4

Use your Adrenaline Orb to 'make the opponent nervous'. Now the opponent will eventually start calling for help. This article will call this Pokemon the 'Summoner', because it summons allies.

  5. 5

Whenever an ally appears, kill it (if it is not Shiny) and do not kill the Summoner.

  6. 6

Continue step 5 until you find a Shiny Pokemon, then kill the Summoner and catch the Shiny Pokemon. You need to defeat every Pokémon except the one that you want to catch beforehand, so prepare! Put your best team on it.

To use the Ultra Wormhole method, you will need to have unlocked the Altar of the Moone if you play Moon or Ultra Moon, or the Altar of the Sunne if you're playing Sun or Ultra Sun. Fly to the Altar of the Moone/Sunne using the Charizard mount.

  2. 2

Enter the wormhole (the white rift in space-time) by pressing 'A' and selecting 'Enter the Ultra Wormhole'.

  3. 3

Play the minigame 'Ultra Warp Ride'. The purpose of this minigame is to hit the golden circles and dodge the blue circles and portals as far as you can. If you go really far in Ultra Warp Ride, it can be really easy to get a Shiny two within an hour of each other!

  4. 4

Once you end the minigame and enter a portal, you will appear in a mysterious place called the 'Ultra Space Wilds'. Here, you will find the spot where the Pokemon will appear.

  5. 5

Once a Pokemon appears, if it isn't Shiny, then end the battle, go back to the Altar of The Moone/Sunne and repeat steps 2-5. Repeat this until you get a Shiny.

  6. 6

If you find a Shiny, then catch it. Congratulations and enjoy your new Shiny Pokemon!

  • Question

How do I unlock the Altar of the Moone?

    Community Answer

After you obtain the moon/sun flute on Ponie island, you should get there soon.

  • Question

How many times will you have to do it?

    Belle K.

Statistically many hundred times although it depends on the rate of spawning a shiny for the specific Pokemon as well as luck.

  • Question

What are the chances of finding a shiny Pokemon through ultra wormholes?

    Belle K.

This depends on the number of rings in the wormhole, as well as how many light years you travel. The highest chance of finding a shiny Pokemon is 36% when there are 3 rings and you are 5000 light years away.

  • Question

How do you hunt for a shiny Legendary or Mythical Pokémon?

    Verin

Go to the Ultra Wormhole and travel as far you can; the further you go, the better the odds of finding Legendary/Mythical, and the better all around odds of it being shiny. (Make sure you jump into the correct wormhole as different colours correpsond to different Pokémon.) Once you find your desired Legend/Myth, save in front of it, then start the encounter (you must save before you start the encounter). If it's shiny (unlikely on the first try), great! Catch it and you're done. If it's not, Soft Reset (SR) and try again (to SR, hold L, R and START/SELECT). After you SR, re-encounter it, and repeat the SRs as needed. (This method only works on Legends/Myths, not regular Pokémon.)

  • Question

How do you get both flutes?

    Hagukanan

You're only able to get one flute. If you're playing Sun/Ultra Sun, you'll get the Sun flute, and if you're playing Moon/Ultra Moon, you'll get the Moon flute.

  • Question

How many yellow rings should I get?

    Wooper

You can get the highest shiny chances with three rings. Once you get to the flower shaped wormholes, the ones you encounter legendaries in, the shiny chances are that of regular gameplay.

  • Question

Can you get a mythical through an Ultra wormhole?

    Wooper

No. Although most legendaries can be found via ultra wormholes, Mythical pokémon can only acquired by transfer from other games or specific distributions.

  • Using an Ultra Ball on most Pokémon will suffice. No need to use your Master Ball on a shiny Bidoof!

  • Always bring a Master Ball in case of finding legendary Pokemon.

  • Remember that your chance of finding a wild Pokemon that is shiny, increases if either you have caught all the legendaries, or you go to the highest rarity of wormhole.

  • Do not bring an item such as a Rocky Helmet or use a status move such as Poison before the wild Pokémon has called for help, or the opposing Pokémon will lose health after you have left it with only 1 HP.
